The ISO TS 16949 certification standard was replaced by IATF 16949 in 2006. It is based on in ISO 9001, the most widely recognized quality management system, but with specific requirements for the automotive industry. Therefore, IATF 16949 certification is the formal approval of a company's quality management system (QMS) by an independent third party.
